Zhangjiagang High-tech Industrial Development Zone (ZHIDZ) started construction on November 12, 2015 after the approval of the Jiangsu government. It covers an area of 23.1 square kilometers.

On July 31, 2017, ZHIDZ established the Party Working Committee and Management Committee. Since then, ZHIDZ, ZETDZ and Yangshe Town have jointly implemented the "One Town and Two Zones" administrative system. Adhering to the strategies of innovation-driven development as well as the integration of industries and cities, ZHIDZ is committed to be a city of industry, science & technology, innovation, and ecology, focusing on developing strategic emerging industries, such as semiconductor, green energy, intelligent equipment and remanufacturing, large data and artificial intelligence.

To win the global title as the capital of compound semiconductor, the zone has gathered many leading foreign and domestic enterprises, such as GCL System Integration Technology Co, HC SemiTek Corporation and Zhangjiagang Furui Special Equipment Co, It also built Shazhou Lake Technological Innovation Park, the first national demonstration base for the remanufacturing industry and a national science and technology enterprise incubator. On February 26, 2018, the zone was included in the Audit Catalogue of China Development Zones (2018 Edition).
